Information for academics & professionals
When we started out on this journey we had few sales orders but many ideas. It was a great time to spend time with academics and design professionals who shared our enthusiasm for creating a new, sustainable, kind of architectural lighting.
We've previously hosted groups of up to 45 people at a time and many design professionals have stayed overnight in accommodation pods that we built inside our factory.
Like all good science, our ideas needed to be unpicked, challenged and critiqued by people with skin in the game, often while walking in the wild Pennine landscape around the factory. It made the ideas better and stronger and it's how we became the company we are today. We're especially indebted to Dr Simon Mair at York University for his considerable efforts to help get this ship afloat.
We have two desks that are always available for post-graduate studies. If you need a desk and unrestricted access to a Circular Economy factory for your studies, get in touch.
If your proposal is accepted we can help with your travel expenses and provide all the food, drink and materials you require while here. Our only requirement is permission to publish any work you create (on our website) for the benefit of others.
Our current area of focus is development of comprehensive Life Cycle Assessments in the context of the unique manufacturing processes we developed for closed-loop Circular Economy. If you're stuck for an idea of your own, please adopt ours :-)
At the time of writing 2 MSc candidates have successfully completed placements on this basis.
We're busier than ever before and we need to:
- Upgrade our (increasingly unsuitable) former trouser factory to a purpose-built factory that better reflects the commercial reality we have created.
- Begin design / development of the most complex product we've ever undertaken (can't say what it is unfortunately)
Both objectives are eye-wateringly expensive and for that reason, we're super-focussed on revenue (making money) for all of 2024 and the first half of 2025. During this time, all CPD's are online only.
If you're an architect, designer or building engineer please get in touch by email or WhatsApp to book a group or a one-to-one CPD session. Chris has some brilliant video and interactive content to share via Google Meet etc. Expect any session you book to look and feel something like this:
